Critical Analysis of Fashion Trend in Different Geopolitical Region in Nigeria.

As an experienced fashion designer in Nigeria, I have had the opportunity to observe and analyze  current fashion trends in  different geopolitical zones of the country. These trends are stronglyinfluenced by the cultural origins of the inhabitants of these regions.

In the northern region of Nigeria, fashion trends are heavily influenced by Islamic culture. The  fashion style is mainly traditional clothing such as the babariga,  a type of sundress for men, and the headscarf, a headscarf for women. The materials used for these outfits are often light and breathable such as cotton and silk to suit the hot and humid climate of the region. The colors used for these outfits are often muted and subdued, such as beige and brown, to reflect  conservative Muslim culture.

In the Western region of Nigeria, the predominant fashion style is traditional Yoruba clothing. The Yoruba people are known for their colorful and vibrant fashion style, which is heavily influenced by their cultural background. Traditional clothing for men is the agbada, which is a flowing robe, and for women,  the iro and buba, which are a cape and blouse. The fabrics used for these outfits often come in a variety of colors and patterns, such as adire, a tie-dyed fabric, and aso-oke, a handwoven fabric. These outfits are often combined with traditional beads and jewelry.

In the Eastern region of Nigeria, the main fashion style is traditional Igbo clothing. The Igbo people are known for their vibrant and colorful fashion styles that reflect their cultural origins. The traditional outfit for men is isiagu, which is a patterned shirt, and for women it is a George Wrapper and blouse. The fabrics used for these outfits are  often  bright and colorful, such as ankara,  a wax-printed fabric, and lace. These outfits are often combined with traditional beads and jewelry.

In the southern region of Nigeria,  fashion trends are heavily influenced by the coastal lifestyle of the people. The main style is simple, comfortable clothing, suitable for the hot and humid climate of the region. The fabrics used for these outfits are usually light and breathable, such as linen and cotton. The colors used for these costumes are often bright and vibrant, reflecting the coastal lifestyle of the local people.

In conclusion,  fashion trends in Nigeria are heavily influenced by the cultural background of  people from different geopolitical zones. As a fashion designer, it is important to understand and appreciate these cultural differences in order to create fashion designs that are appropriate for the people in these regions. By incorporating traditional fabrics, patterns and accessories into modern fashion designs, we are able to create unique and exciting fashion styles that reflect Nigeria's cultural heritage.
